Beer- #341 - Port Brewing - Wipeout

Hopefully back on the wining track with this, from Port Brewing a Wipeout IPA.

Brewed by Port Brewing/Lost Abbey in the style of an India Pale Ale (IPA) and they are in the fine city of San Marcos, California USA.

650ml (22 oz) bottle of a 7% ABV beer, making it about 3.58 standard drink units in NZ, the bottle contains about 385 calories, or 210 per serve.

With 78 IBUs. Our version of a West Coast IPA- brewed in the San Diego style. This massively hoppy beer gets its flavor and attitude from no less than five hop varieties including Amarillo, Centennial, Cascade, Simcoe and Summit.

This one is dedicated to everyone who has gotten up at the butt crack of dawn, headed towards the shores and found it 4-6 feet and offshore only to find 30 of your \buddies\" have already claimed the peak. As you paddle out...

Brewed to celebrate anyone and everyone who has ever paddled into the best wave of the day only to blow it and Wipeout in a blaze of glory. Our version of a West Coast IPA brewed with a measure of heavy handed San Diego dry hopping.

Spent a few moments trying to delete a full-stop in a sentence, turned out it was a diet spot on the screen.

Heady burst of grassy hops on opening, and also a sweetness. Pale cloudy hazy yellow golden poor with an ice-cream soda head, which luckily settles a little but is still present, settling under its own weight.

Deliciously sweet and bitter. Seriously caramel. Nicely so.

The bitterness in this is very very understated. 78 IBU is at the top end for IPA style beer but you'd never pick it, or at least I couldn't.

Lovely bunch of floral under-notes in this making it a bit of a delightful pint.

The pdubyah-o-meter then rates this as a very enjoyable 8 on the arbitrary scale of things, making this very good in the scheme of things.

It is not a 9 or 10 though, I think that it's a bit well behaved for an IPA, and although it has some bitter bite it is somewhat over-awed by the sweetness in this, That and this doesn't really have a long finish. It's just a very good beer done very well

Did I learn from the first pour that this is with great head, of course not!

The double-dip review....

Am I enjoying it? oh yes.

Would I have another? I would probably love another.

Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? I think that this would drink well over a tall story or two.

INDIA PALE ALE & IPA

India Pale Ale gets its name and unique style from British brewers who were making beer for export to India. This style has an intense hop flavor which was used to preserve the beer for the long voyage. India Pale Ale has a golden to copper color with a medium maltiness and body. The aroma is moderate to very strong. IPAs work especially well at cutting the heat of chili, vindaloo or Sichuan cuisine.
