Beer - #337 - Panhead - Trekken

I ease myself into the Saturday evening with this a Panhead - Trekken- a Saison beer.

Brewed by Panhead Custom Ales , this one in the Style of a  Saison and they're in Upper Hutt, New Zealand

Fruity, sweet nose with hay and grassy hints. Fabulously bitter with a nice banana malt finish

This is a new-world approach to the Saison style, throwing in hops like Citra and Sorachi Ace and others.

A 500ml bottle of a 6% ABV beer, 180 calories a serving (240-ish for the bottle),  and this is 2.37 standard drink units in NZ.

Worse thing about this beer, the dark text on dark background making it almost unreadable.

Panhead - Trekken1Real grassy hop aroma on opening, as it does with a firm hiss. Very lively in the glass, golden pour with a reasonable and persistent head.

Unusual palate this, the familiar musty dusty saison style, but this has a fair amount of sweetness too.

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as a  6.5 on the scale of arbitrary, which is average to good in my mind.

For me this dialled up in hops by aroma, and not necessarily in the palate. It is however dangerously drinkable and this has disappeared with ay too much ease. Obviously then there is a taste point in this that ticks my button.

I should like this more, but I'm left feeling that this is too light in body for my taste. I like the flavours that it develops though. I probably need another to be more accurate

The double dip review questions

  1. Am I enjoying it?  It's refreshing and quaffable

  2. Would I have another? Probably not, it finishes towards dry.

  3. Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? Not this one no.

I was watching the sportsball on the teevee, the local team is getting a serve, so I changed to music. and Rogue Wave the album Permalight -- Good Morning

SAISON

Fruity esters dominate the aroma. Clarity is good with a large foamy head on top. The addition of several spices and herbs create a complex fruity or citrusy flavor. Light to medium bodied with very high carbonation. Alcohol level is medium to high.

  1. Always a fan of your use of the word "quaffable"
