It's the World Cup (16)

The Knockout round! Round 2

Winners in these two matches get to face off in the next round. No draws it's a winner takes it all.  I'm tempted by the Netherlands and Greece today. Bookmakers have Costa Rica in mind though... based on my 50/50 results so far....

I think I'm right in saying that in the 2nd game neither team have made this stage previously and so therefore are defiantly in unchartered waters after this.

Beer - #408 - Epic - Apocalypse IPA

Epic Apocalypse IPA, I fair fell over myself going to get one of these, and one other that I went out for. I need to get out more....  Anyhoo  for now... this.

The Brewer is Epic Brewing Company (NZ) and for Epic this is brewed at Steam Brewing Company and it's in the style that is  Black IPA and they are based in Auckland, New Zealand, although they tout it out a bit.

50 IBUS things in a bottle of 500ml, that has 180 calories a serve. and at 6% ABV this is 2.7 standard drinks in a bottle.

Black in colour, massively hoppy like an IPA. Brewed using Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra and Chinook hops.

Epic - Apocalypse IPAFirst brewed in 2009 as New Zealand's first Black IPA. The dark brother of Armageddon is finally back. Blacker. Hoppier. Better. You think it should be raosty and rull bodied like a stout. WRONG! It's face punchingly aromatic, juicy delicious hops dominate the flavour, and it finishes with a lingering hoppy bite.

It has been touted as Epic Armageddon’s black brother, but I have used slightly different hops for this version of an IPA. Amarillo, Simcoe, Citra and Chinook. Don’t ask me why, I just felt that the flavours of these hops together would work well in this beer. You will notice that the hop aroma is pretty significant, and this follows into the flavour, where it marries with a hint of roasty malt notes, and finishes clean, bitter and an after taste of hops.

I might be onto something. If not how to cut and paste links from google.

Beer - #407 - Garage Project - Château Aro

Poshed up name this one - Garage Project - Château Aro.

Brewed by Garage Project in the style that could be called Fruit Beer and they are in the windiest of Wellington, New Zealand

Their standard delivery of a 650 ml bottle, this one has beer of 8.5% ABV,  making it 255 calories a serving, and containing  4.36 standard drinks

Garage Project - Château Aro‘Never mix grape and grain’ – we’re breaking the cardinal rule again for our second grape harvest beer. Château Aro, a dark rubescent lager, conditioned on the freshly crushed juice and skins of pinot noir grapes from the award winning Escarpment Winery. And the result of this unholy union? Rich, complex and surprising. Remember, beer then wine, you’ll be fine.

Indeed, they seem to best at the beers at the edge of the boundary rather than the middle,  I'm hoping that this is nearer the edge.

It's the World Cup (15)

The Knockout round!

Winners in these two matches get to face off in the next round. No draws it's a winer takes it all.  I'm tempted by Brazil and Uruguay.

Beer - #406 - Garage Project - Pan Pacific

From a brewer that is increasing it's styles and beers daily it seems - this is Garage Project and their beer Pan Pacific

Brewed by Garage Project this is in the style that is an Amber Ale and they are in Wellington, New Zealand

650ml bottle of a beer that is 6% ABV - 180 calories a serve, and 3.08 standard drink units in this .

Pan Pacific is brewed with golden syrup, suggestively named Golden Naked Oats and a combination of New Zealand Motueka and Australian Galaxy hops.

Pan Pacific is a rich red amber, with generous malt and fruit hop character, and a subtle hint of toasted coconut at the end of the palate. It’s a brew to meet the arrival of Autumn, with nice body and character with just a hint of warmer climes.

Garage Project - Pan Pacific Originally inspired by the humble ANZAC biscuit, Pan Pacific is brewed with golden syrup, suggestively named Golden Naked Oats and a combination of New Zealand Motueka and Australian Galaxy hops. It was originally released as a 20 litre cask at the first Pacific Beer festival with a name acknowledging the biscuit which inspired it. Interesting fact – it’s actually illegal to use the word ANZAC in the name of any product other than ANZAC biscuits (which can’t be called cookies). Who knew?

This latest big batch brew has an addition of toasted coconut and a new name acknowledging its pacific ingredients. Pan Pacific is a rich red amber, with generous malt and fruit hop character, and a subtle hint of toasted coconut at the end of the palate. It’s a brew to meet the arrival of Autumn, with nice body and character with just a hint of warmer climes.

Come fly with us.

Now I like an Anzac Biscuit and so I'm looking forward to this

Day Fourteen

Almost a labour of love this, 4 Games ! Iran could advance if they win convincingly, Switzerland need a big win too.

It's the Word Cup (12)

It's the Word Cup (11)

Day Twelve

4 Games ! the thick end of the wedge where they start to sort out the group lacings and so the draw in the knock-out part of the comp, and to avoid shenanigans they play the matches at the same time.

Go to fancy Australia over a defeated and humiliated Spain, Netherlands look imperious, Brazil of course and Mexico.

Beer - #405 - Mikkeller - Beer Geek Brunch Weasel

Another beer with a long torturous name Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

So this is a Mikkeller beer, brewed at Lervig Aktiebryggeri as an Imperial Stout and they are in Copenhagen, Denmark, even if the bottle says it's brewed and bottled in Norway, confused much?

10.9% ABV this one!,  327 calories, and only a 335 ml bottle (11.2 fl oz), making it 2.84 standard drink units in this.

Imperial oatmeal stout brewed with coffee. Ingredients: Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee

Brewed by Mikkeller at Nøgne Ø, Norway.

Mikkeller - Beer Geek Brunch WeaselThis imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.
Ingredients : Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee

After a Sunday that whizzed by, and having had a 5km run that according to the app earned me 468 calories  I'm looking forward to this, and also it's been in the fridge a while and needed to see the daylight.

It's the Word Cup (10)

Day Eleven

Looking forward to game one and 3 the middle game no so much, but they all have something in them.

It's the Word Cup (9)

Day Ten

The gritty games in the middle of the round, none of them particularly glamorous and I might pick Argentina, German and a Draw

Three teams through already and three teams on their way home so far.

It's Sunday morning, and I'm not as bright as I might be otherwise.

Beer - #404 - Two Fingers - Joan of Arc Smoked Pilsener

I love creative names and this is no different - Two Fingers Joan of Arc Smoked Pilsener, and so I'm back to back in Pilsners this evening.

This on is brewed by Two Fingers Beers Ltd. this is in the style that is described as Smoked or even Pilsener and they are in Tikitere Rotorua, New Zealand

A bottle that is 500ml 5.5% ABV - 171 calories a serve, and 2.4 standard drink units

Joan of arc was born Jan 1412, a peasant girl in eastern France. France at the time was being invaded by the English with support from the French Burgundians. Apparently in 1424, the wee lassie started having visions from God, whom, it would seem, was in support of Charles VII claim to the throne. Now the English, unaware of Gods political affiliation, lost several battles to Joan’s teenage leadership of the French army. Eventually, captured by the Burgundians and burned at the stake for heresy in May 1431 at the age of 19. Her bones were burned 3 times over to ensure nothing was left, for souvenirs I guess.

Beer - #403 - Eagle vs Dog - Episode 1 Hitch-Hikers Guide Pilsner

Never been able to do things in the right order and so finally I managed to puy the first chapter of 3 beers - Eagle vs Dog - Episode 1 Hitch-Hikers Guide Pilsner. I've previously drunk the Episode 2 and more recently the Episode 3 offerings

So for Golden Eagle Brewery brewed at Raindogs Brewing Co: this is brewed in the style that is  Pilsener and they're in Christchurch, New Zealand

This is a 500ml bottle of beer that is 2.7 standard rink units, meaning 5.5% ABV, and it's around 150 calories.

Eagle vs Dog - Episode 1 Hitch-Hikers Guide PilsnerBorn from a melding of cultures whilst on the run from the Vogon fleet. Utilising brewers born under the Long White Cloud and St George’s Cross. Incorporating German and Canterbury malts, devilishly Tasmanian hops, shaken not stirred Christchurch artesian water and a very Bohemian Czech yeast. A truly complex Pilsner guaranteed to take your taste buds on a trippy voyage to the end of the universe. Don’t forget your towel!

Nice aroma on opening that is yeast and sweet.

Pour is very pale, almost transparent but is a soft golden yellow, and there is little by way of head, and what there is leaves.  Colour is nice and even.

It's the Word Cup (8)

Day Nine

The going get tough after yesterdays disaster for England - Hops and dreams will not be enough to advance. Still there is the EPL and Crystal Palace to look forward to.

Three teams through already and three teams on their way home so far.

Beer - #402 - Wild Beer - Put it in Your Pipe

I found this lurking in the fridge - Wild Beer - Put it in Your Pipe. I hadn't forgotten it I just had overlooked it.

Brewed by Wild Beer this is in the style that is : Stout  or equally Smoked and they are based in Shepton Mallet, England

A Giant 750ml bottle of a beer that is 5.1% ABV, making it about 123 calories a serve, and  this would be 3.02 standard drink units in NZ .

[caption id="attachment_8659" align="alignright" width="300"]Selfiness Selfiness[/caption]

A beautiful black stout with an enormous amount of smoked malt to produce a delicious flavour reminiscent of Lapsang Souchong tea. A staggeringly smooth and smokey sweetness radiates through the beer, evocative of being warmed around the campfire on an autumnal evening. The malt is smoked over open beech log fires giving a distinctive yet mellow smokey character. We love to drink this beer whilst eating slow-cooked pork or barbecue dishes, where the smokey flavours play alongside each other and the body of the beer matches nicely to the rich meat. Or, for something more unusual, try it alongside a creme brulee where it will be a winning partner to the burnt sugar.

So a Smoky Stout?  Certainly smokey on opening and obvious. But rich aromas too.

It's the Word Cup (7)

Day Eight,

England have to win to have any chance

Beer - #401 - Timothy Taylor - Landlord

Run away from the edge -- which I'm doing by drinking this -  Timothy Taylor Landlord  - English beer.  I've seen this around and though I should.

Brewed by Timothy Taylor in the gold old style that is a Bitter or it might be  of course a real old English Pale Ale and they are in Keighley, England

[caption id="attachment_8631" align="alignleft" width="300"]Ye Olde Selfie Ye Olde Selfie[/caption]

A 500ml bottle of a beer of 4.1% ABV, all of  123 calories, this makes 1.66 standard drinks in NZ. IBU could be be expected in the 30-40 range

First brewed in 1952 as a bottled beer called Competition Ale. Changed name to Landlord in 1953.

For a beer that is championship winning there is not a lot about it to be found. Like iI mentioned though this is in a number of places so is being sourced in quantity in NZ, I wonder if it's worth it.

It's the Word Cup (6)

Day Seven,

Starts the 2nd round of the round robin games.  Australia have a mountain to climb to be competitive, Spain need to Win and two teams looking to get some points on the board to have a chance to advance.

Beer - #400 - Garage Project - Mecha-Hop

This writing is of the 400th beer thing since I started making notes.  This small milestone needed to be got to with something a bit different, and unusual.  So I brought me something unusual, not Scruttocks Old Dirigible, and not something  wildly rare or intimidatingly expensive.

But unusual.

How about a 100% Industrial Process Ale with no raw, unprocessed ingredients used in its making.*

*might contain free-range water.

Brewed by Garage Project in the style that is  Imperial/Double IPA and they are in a garage in Wellington, New Zealand

This is a 650ml bottle,  and it has 10% ABV,  an unknown number of IBU things but more than 100, and 300 calories a serve. This is 5.1 standard drink units in a bottle.

[caption id="attachment_8614" align="alignleft" width="300"]Mecha-Self-Ie Mecha-Self-Ie[/caption]

Brewed better than nature to battle it out at the Great Australian BeerSpectapular – this is Mecha Hop, experimental IPA - 100% Industrial Process Ale.

Using only the finest vacuum evaporated pure dry malt extract and Warrior, Amarillo and Simcoe liquid CO2 hop extracts, this beast of a beer weighs in at 10% abv and over 100 IBU.

Guaranteed no raw, unprocessed ingredients - the modernist dream at its unheeding and arrogant best. Welcome to the bold new world of Garage Project - welcome to the future. What could possibly go wrong..

"In down to earth speak then Mecha Hop is brewed using liquid malt extract, liquid hop extract, water and yeast. That’s the stuff you see in the home-brew tins at the supermarket, mixed with the hop goo megabrewers use to give their beer some semblance of hop character"

I'm still scratching my head over this, but I'm told it's a bit good. Great label artwork to look at while I ponder what about to happen.

It's the Word Cup (5)

Day Six, I might be a bit lost on the day number things. Three games again....

Bit distracted waiting for the technician to come and install the fibre internet to the house.

Anyway you get an idea that this is about a bragging competition today in games 2 and in 3,  Lots of rivalry sporting, politically and historically.

Beer - #399 - Behemoth - 'Murica

Finally I found one in the local shop, the  Behemoth - 'Murica. My Beer #399 - man could get a bit emotional about it .

So for the  Behemoth Brewing Company Brewed at The Twisted Hop this is in the well traveled style that is the American Pale Ale .

A 6% ABV beer in a 500 ml bottle, 2.3 standard drinks worth in NZ,  so the 16 oz bottle contains about 240 calories. and would be 2.3 standard rink ins in a the bottle

[caption id="attachment_8556" align="alignleft" width="300"]Yee ha! Yee ha![/caption]

Murica APA is: “bittered with Columbus, then late in the kettle there is Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe. Then its dry hopped with a redonk load of Simcoe and Amarillo hops... love me some hops yeeeeehaw!

(fires guns into air)”

pew pew....

This is a bottle with fantastic colours and all that.

I've noticed that there are a couple of local craft brewing companies that don't maintain a high profile presence, they don't have web pages and rely on Facebook for information. So coming by something on this beer that isn't on the label is hard yards. But I digress and harp on a bit, just because I want to google them doesn't mean anyone else would want to find out about anything they do, 'miright?

Beer - #398 - Funk Estate - So'phisticuffs

I had this on tap out on my travels and I see it made into a bottle version.

So for the Funk Estate and brewed by Kereru Brewing Company this is styled as an India Pale Ale (IPA) or American IPA and they are in Wellington, New Zealand

"Medium caramelly malt base with a spicy grapefruit and citrus twang"

This is a 355ml bottle of a beer that is 6.5% ABV, about 195 calories, and 1.7 standard drinks

[caption id="attachment_8550" align="alignright" width="300"]S'Elfie S'Elfie[/caption]

The result of ongoing flirtations between an aggressively fierce serving of kiwi hops and a solid distinguished malt character is this love child. So’phisticuffs. As the names suggests she is beautiful, bold balanced and banging, bringing together the quintessential elements of a funkalicious IPA.

Give her a go, she’s a badass lass with a lot of class.

I'll be honest and say that out and about this was middling as a beer goes. But for a Sunday where I've seen to much sportsball it might be just the go.

It's the Word Cup (2)

Day three!!  All hopes high for at least England today.

Brunch was organised, being Scrambled eggs, Bacon, Sausages and for me Sweetbreads cooked in butter, and some store brought fresh bread.

It's the Word Cup (1)

I start at day two because well I'm a bit lazy.  It's FIFA World Cup time, not world series, but a proper global sport having a competition.

It's Football. not the 'S' word, lets get that upfront, or if you want to bicker with me be precise about what you are referring to.

There is

and

Curiously I've been told, without any evidence that "Soccer" appears to be some kind of weird morph of Association Football, which was commonly known as"Assoc", and then which then became "Soccer".

In New Zeland 'Football" refers to Rugby Football, in Australia "Footie" can be either the League, or depending on which state you are in (as in territory) the Australian Rules version. In 'Merica it's the American rules game.  CAn't speak to Gaelic (but I have watched it and enjoyed it) or Canadian Rules.

Anyhow, I digress ....

Day one:

Dodgy refereeing decision to award a penalty, and a couple of toe-pokes see Brazil  cruise past Croatia 3-1.

Day two:

Game 1- Mexico, in the rain, overcome Cameroon with a sharply taken goal. I didn't watch much of this game, it was on way to early for me to get up and watch, especially having stayed up to watch England play Netherlands in the Hockey until the small hours.

Game 2- Netherlands demolish Spain 5-1 after being 1-0 down to another dubious penalty award. Robin Van Persie then scores one of the best goals I've seen in a long time, a cross from the half-way line into the 18 yard area and a flying header - this is why it's called 'the beautiful game'  Holders Spain - who beat Nederlands in the last Word Cup Final - then capitulate in the second half, lose the plot and were dominated.

If the link works the goal is here -  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHpOEIBgS44

Game 3- I because an Aussie for 90 minutes (plus stoppage) - Australia and Chile. No one fancies Australia and they went 2-0 down in 14 minutes with 2 goals in the 12 and 14th. Looked like the gates had been opened only for Australia who looked ragged and disorganised in defence to muster up and get one goal back. Chile then sat on the lead in the 2nd half as Australia couldn't get the equaliser, and finally let a 3rd in just on the flu time whistle. The game as cruel as it is beautiful

Day three has 4 games, England and Italy being the one I'm most interested in, mostly because being English and all, even if I live in New Zealand. You can take the boy out of England.....

Might put my England Jersey on to watch the game, might even go out and sit with strangers and watch it. Might even make a note tomorrow about how it went, which will either be praise and singing-when-you're-winning or it'll be "well we al knew that would happen"

Beer - #397 - Thornbridge - Halcyon

I know right a double header, after the last party in my mouth I went all out and got this the Thornbridge Halcyon, a word of many meaning .

Brewed by Thornbridge again in the style that is  India Pale Ale (IPA) and they didn't move from Bakewell, England in the last 1/2 hour since I looked. Brewers label art says this is an Imperial IPA, but it seems that doesn't jibe well with the contents so I'm going with IPA.

Label art is amazing though.

7.4% ABV, 500ml, a seasonal beer, so not an all year brew, 222 calories a serving,  and this is 2.92 standard drink units in a bottle.  This might be around 65 IBU things so slightly more bitter and at the top end of the range for IPA.

[caption id="attachment_8517" align="alignleft" width="300"]Selfie time as usual Selfie time as usual[/caption]

Halcyon pours an opaque honey hue and produces a huge rich tropical fruit and hop aroma. Chewy, juicy, biscuity malts and intense pineapple fruit flavours and citrus hoppiness combine with a hint of tangerine and pear drops

Rich fruit and hop character in aroma. Chewy, juicy malts and intense hoppiness coming through in mouth with a hint of tangerine and pear drops. Ends with a well-balanced bitterness.

Best not hang about then.

Beer - #396 - Thornbridge - Jaipur (a redux)

Thornbride Jaipur - From the way back when machine I found a place that stocks this now, on the shelf, last time I had this I thought it was  two things.

Firstly it was a special delivery from the UK from a very god friend, Neil, and secondly it was a gosh good beer.

So here we go again - Brewed by Thornbridge in the style that is  India Pale Ale (IPA) and they are in Bakewell, England (which I think has a Tart named after it too). It's been 369 beers between drinks.

It's a beer of 5.9% ABV, and comes in a 500ml bottle, making it 177 calories a serving, and 2.33 standard drink units in NZ.  This s 55 on the IBU scale, so  middling to bitter is expected.

[caption id="attachment_8510" align="alignright" width="300"]Selfie Selfie[/caption]

A citrus dominated India Pale Ale, its immediate impression is soft and smooth yet builds to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated by honey. An enduring, bitter finish.

The immediate impression of this wonderful multi award winning India Pale Ale is soft and smooth but this builds around the mouth to a crescendo of massive hoppiness accentuated by honey.

Voted best keg ale in the World at the 2010 Brewing Industry International Awards.

Can't help but thinking that the world has sped up a bit since 2010 and that that particular crown would be even harder to achieve now.

Beer - #395 - Celt Experience - Celt Silures

I've previoulsy had the Ogham Willow, and I got the chance to buy this Celt Experience Celt Silures and I couldn't not. Well I could have, there was more choice, bit this seemed to call to me.

Brewed by Celt Experience this is in the style that is American Pale Ale
and they are in the place in Wales that has a Cheese named for them too! Caerphilly, Wales.

A chunky 500ml bottle of a beer of 4.6% ABV- a golden ale of 61 IBU things  and 138 calories a serving, this is a bottle holding 1.81 standard drinks then.  Label has a QR code on it, IDK. anyways  61 IBU  is sort of IPA-ish

"Powerfully hopped with sweetmalt and a depth of tropical fruit
Tribal vistas where all is conquered.
Silures were a powerful Celtic tribe from todays South Wales stood tall against Roman invasion"

A powerful and deep bodied pale ale with a fruity spectrum of aromas. This robust

[caption id="attachment_8496" align="alignleft" width="300"]It's a selfie where I look a lot worse for wear! It's a selfie where I look a lot worse for wear![/caption]

beer is brewed using a balance of flavour malts and Pacific and Alantic hops, the result is a massive dry-hopped beer with a perfect profile of bitterness, sweet vanilla maltiness and a blend of citrus passionfruit and mango on the finish. The beer is named after a powerful and warlike tribe of ancient Britain, occupying approximately the counties of Monmouthshire, Breconshire. The Silures made a fierce resistance to the Roman conquest about AD 48, and it remains unclear whether they were actually militarily defeated or simply agreed to come to terms with the Romans!

It'll make a change of pace to drink this. An unusual delivery with a foil top,

Beer - #394 - 8 Wired - Chardonnay Barrel Aged Saeson

Is the season for Saison it seems, and I've enjoyed the ones I've had recently, and might just try this one 8 Wired Chardonnay Barrel Aged Saeson.

For 8 Wired Brewing Brewed at Renaissance Brewing and no points for guessing that this is in the style that is  Saison and they're based in Blenheim, New Zealand.

In a funky bottle that is of 500 ml (1pt 9fl oz), containing a  7% ABV beer , working out to 210 calories a serve, and that would be 2.76 standard drink units (the label says 2.9). This one pops in at 25 IBU on the scale of things - low Pilsner, Porter or Pale ale kind of bitter.

[caption id="attachment_8488" align="alignleft" width="300"]Selfie from a distance Selfie from a distance[/caption]

Ale aged in chardonnay barrels with Brettanomyces

A saison brewed to what I would expect old world ales to have tasted like, with a new world hop twist. Aged in chardonnay barrels with added brettanomyces for a year, then dry hopped with NZ hops.

Of course at this point I realise that I'm not a big fan of Chardonnay style wine, but I've never let that get in the way of trying something out.

Kneading the Bread

I made bread today, It's something to fill the gap in time, and makes for a pleasing change.

[caption id="attachment_8481" align="aligncenter" width="300"]So it is! So it is![/caption]

Easy to make, well the machine does it all really

[caption id="attachment_8482" align="aligncenter" width="300"]How to How to[/caption]

I toss in a goodly amount of mixed herbs at the beginning,  just a choice , but it adds body to the flavour, and I don't go adding the olives.

But it does work and it stays fresh and when it's toasted, well it's just a sensation

Beer - #393 - ParrotDog - DevilBird

I couldn't help myself  and stopped to pick up a 1 litre bottle from the taps of the ParrotDog DevilBird. For an unemployed man I live it a bit.

Brewed by ParrotDog Brewing and of course no guesses it is in the style of a Belgian Strong Ale and that is out of Wellington, New Zealand.

Its an 8.4% ABV beer and is about 252 calories a serve of 355ml, so about 750 isn for the litre. This would be a 6.63 standard drink units-worth.

[caption id="attachment_8476" align="alignleft" width="300"]Borrowed a bottle Borrowed a bottle[/caption]

Golden and complex, featuring hints of fruit, spice and all things nice. ParrotDog’s very first crack at a Belgian-styled beer.

DevilBird’s recipe was inspired by the classic Duvel

Soooo, did not know that it is a homage to Duvel, which I think is slightly emperors clothes if you ask me.

But that's ok because this is not that.

Light bitter aroma on opening, it's brim full and I know I'm going to spill this.

Beer - #392 - Behemoth - Sacrilegious Saison Oaked Version

Settling into a peaceful Sunday with the second Behemoth Sacrilegious Saison  the 'oaked' version, dialling it up a notch!

So for the  Behemoth Brewing Company and  brewed at The Twisted Hop clearly in the  in the style that is a  Saison,  and this happens out of Auckland, somewhere.

This is a 500ml bottle of a beer with an ABV of 8.0%, making it around  3.15 Standard Drinks, witch would make it around 320 calories in the bottle

Bottle 11 of 300 BSSO

Bottle 11 of 300, says the label, first up best dressed!

Some may say this beer is sacrilegious to the beer purity gods. It is big on alcohol but finishes quite dry. This farmhouse style Saison Ale is scattered with peppercorns, bitter orange peel and a heavenly dose of Motueka hops.

Now then, after the 'standard version' I'm prepared for nothing. I'm not sure what the oaked will bring if anything, or nothing.

Beer - #391 - Behemoth - Sacrilegious Saison

Starting a peaceful Sunday with a Behemoth Sacrilegious Saison not to be confused with the 'oaked' version, which is next.

Bottle 219 of 300 BSS

Bottle 219 of 300 (hand written!) I feel special. (pictures below)

Some may say this beer is sacrilegious to the beer purity gods. It is big on alcohol but finishes quite dry. This farmhouse style Saison Ale is scattered with peppercorns, bitter orange peel and a heavenly dose of Motueka hops.

Beer - #390 - Bellerose - Bière Blonde Extra

I grabbed this based on the simplicity of the label mostly. Tonight them I'm drinking a Bellerose Bière Blonde Extra.

Brewed by Brasserie des Sources (formerly: de St. Amand) in the style that is a Golden Ale/Blond Ale and they are in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, France.

750ml bottle of beer that is 6.5% ABV and 195 calories a serve, about 400 for the bottle  and it about 3,3 standard dink units is this, which for a bottle of wine sized drink doesn't seem that much. Picked this up from HopScotch in Mt. Eden.

Bellerose is a Top fermented beer made with 3 hops from 3 different continents by Brasseries Des Sources(Brewery of the Springs). A mix between French "bière de Garde" and IPA with distinctive aromas of citrus & litchi with a hoppy but refreshing aftertaste.

Bellerose draws its inspiration from the 1950s era, a period during which beer was still intensely hoppy and stoutly refreshing. The use of an innovative cocktail of 3 hops brings to Bellerose a distinctive aroma of citrus & litchi with a refreshing aftertaste.

Cork and Cage delivery, cork was a difficult ask but a satisfying pop a it gave up the struggle.

Beer - #389 - Weird Beard - Holy Hoppin Hell Batch 3

Sportsball Sunday - and I'm going to get to half time with the Weird Beard Holy Hoppin Hell Batch 3 beer.

Brewed by Weird Beard in the style that is the Imperial/Double IPA and they are in London, England

330ml bottle of a monster 9.6%ABV beer,  that would be about 2.2 standard drinks in NZ, and 288 calories.

Hoppier than a (insert joke here), and bitter as… Blah blah, just drink it! This double IPA is brewed with the same grain bill each time, to the same ABV and IBUs, but the late hops in each version will be whatever we think will wreak most havoc on your palates. Drink with intensely flavoured foods such as grilled meats and saucy barbecue or smelly cheese. Yeah, go for the smelly cheese. DON’T STORE, JUST DRINK IT! YOU’LL THANK US. Note: Hops change batch to batch

Brought mainly because this has fantastic bottle art, but pleasingly because the man in the store said it was 'interesting' and more like a Lambic in style. Who could resist?

Beer- #388 - Behemoth - Wet Dream Wet Hopped Double IPA

I'm not sure how these get named but this is from a tap into a growler to takeaway with me - the Behemoth- Wet Dream- Wet Hopped Double IPA

It has an 8.3 % ABV, so this bottle is 6.55 standard drink units.  about 200 calories  a serve of 350ml and there are 3 serves in this, and a smidge. Means a second lap of the block on my exercise. He said thoughtfully....

This is brewed for the  Behemoth Brewing Company but its Brewed at The Twisted Hop and it's a Double IPA in style

The Beer Giraffe has produced a wad of angry wet hopped wetness. Nelson Sauvin and some other sticky green flowers provide punchy fruitiness and mouth peeling bitterness.

All Nelson Sauvin hopped double ipa with fresh hops and other forms all through the brewing process

I had this out and about on my travels at a bar, but decided that I should have a crack at this in a different environment. So I stopped at the local place and filled up a litre. Thanks Hopscotch.
