So for the Behemoth Brewing Company Brewed at The Twisted Hop this is in the well traveled style that is the American Pale Ale .
A 6% ABV beer in a 500 ml bottle, 2.3 standard drinks worth in NZ, so the 16 oz bottle contains about 240 calories. and would be 2.3 standard rink ins in a the bottle

Murica APA is: “bittered with Columbus, then late in the kettle there is Centennial, Columbus and Simcoe. Then its dry hopped with a redonk load of Simcoe and Amarillo hops... love me some hops yeeeeehaw!
(fires guns into air)”
pew pew....
This is a bottle with fantastic colours and all that.
I've noticed that there are a couple of local craft brewing companies that don't maintain a high profile presence, they don't have web pages and rely on Facebook for information. So coming by something on this beer that isn't on the label is hard yards. But I digress and harp on a bit, just because I want to google them doesn't mean anyone else would want to find out about anything they do, 'miright?
Rich hop aroma on opening.
Oversized head, like everything in 'murica it's big! Great bloom of aroma in the glass lots of grassy hoppyness and things. great orange brown colour, clear and crisp looking with -as noted- a head of largeness and fluffiness!
Pucker up!
This is really full of hop taste but not really the frowning bitterness they're just a bit loud but not shouty in the mouth and delivery a bit of a punch. lots of length in this too, with me still savouring the first, to be honest. gulp and not sip. The aroma made me do it.
It is more bitter than you could expect from a pale ale, although you could expect the dry hop notes that it has.
This then a very very good beer, it's bigger than Texas!
The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 a of its things from the thing. Which makes it a great beer. So despite it's trick label, amusing name and well rounded hops and flavours it manages to be quite good.
The double dip review
- Am I enjoying it? Yes
- Would I have another? .... I think I might, it's a 'common' beer type and this errs towards hoppy more than bitter.
- Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? It's a fair decent beer is this, and might appeal to both the IPA and Pale Ale drinker, who would both think they're getting a deal.
Making all things good is a local band - with "I Put a Spell on You" - the band "Heart Attack Alley " which is a (Screamin' Jay Hawkins cover)

AMERICAN PALE ALE
American Pale Ales are light in color, ranging from golden to a light copper color. The style of this beer is defined by the American hops used. American hops typically have high bitterness and aroma. This is a perfect beer for big fare like grilled burgers or combination pizzas, as well as lighter fare like sushi and green salads.
What do I need to do to make sure you keep doing this. In my self-imposed journey away from beer, I live now vicariously through you. The picture of the pour on this one. That glass, with the head on it, the color of the beer, your descriptions of the flavor profile and everything else -- ah, I could see myself drinking this beer and enjoying the hell of it. Keep doing this.
ReplyDeleteAnd one more thing ... thanks for posting Heart Attack Alley. Checked them out on Spotify -- very good.
ReplyDeleteThey're a local band, and have that roaring stomp along harmonica and beat sound, good for the days you need it .
ReplyDelete#400 is coming - and not a real ingredient in sight....
ReplyDeleteMrsPhil says I have to not drink during the week this week, but after the final of Game of Thrones this week it might be needed.
