Right then - Tuatara Black Toasted Malt Brewed by Tuatara Brewing Company in the style that is a Stout and they are based in Paraparaumu, New Zealand
Delivered as a 500ml bottle that has all the lumps and bumps of a Tuatara, and this on is 7 ABV, with 210 calories a serve, and is 2.8 standard drink units in this bottle.

Greetings stout lovers. At Tuatara we know your dedication to toasted malts requires no embellishment, so for you we have our brilliant, elemental BLACK. Using everything from Roasted Barley to Dark Crystal (yeah, that’s a thing) we’ve popped the 5-grain into the toaster to create a malt base of opulent Cimmerian shade. And to ensure you’re not losing out to all those pale ale bores, we’ve hopped things up a bit with buckets of Pacific Jade, Chinook, Citra, Amarillo and Centennial. It’s a big one, so don’t overdo it.
I think "can" you can overdo it.
Burst of chocolate or burnt roasted malts on opening, Pour is deep deep black and a fantastic head of fully off white brown, looks os inviting.
Sweet aroma carried to the glass, which is nice. And Bingo!That's a pretty decent beer is that, lots of middle flavours and lingering taste lip smacking away min appreciation. This has. for me. touched a nice point in the flavour thing.
Bags of really nice flavours and very very drinkable beer, quaffing away before I had to stop myself and sit and appreciate it.
So... nicely bitter but at the low end, and nicely sweet, both things at the front of the taste,, the bitterness washes over finishes slightly more bitter but a lovely mouthfeel for this.
Just the beer for me tonight then.
I'd write more about the sweetness, the bitterness, the lips making and then suddenly the empty glass.. the what!!!!
The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as a 8.5 of its things from the thing. It's difficult to restrain yourself in these things, not every beer is a 9 or 10 even if you really like them. So I went with the 8.5, as this doesn't have a 'thick' a body as it might have, say compared to a beer I had yesterday the 8 Wired Flat White for instance that I had on tap out on my travels, and which I might get to write about here (it was big on coffee, really big and thick on viscosity). So anyhoo it's somewhere between the mark being;
- Very Good. This really is getting interesting, and has lots of good things, a beer that I'd buy again over many other
- Great. This looks and tastes great. It has appeal and made me smile. I wish I had another.
So what hold this one back? - well perhaps it needed to be "thicker" in the pour and have more lacing and be more Stout. It might have done with more toasted bitterness in it, but if you see one get one, seriously this is a bit ok.
The double dip review
- Am I enjoying it? Gosh yes
- Would I have another? I hope I can have another, I'd be annoyed if I couldn't buy it again
- Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? Yes. I know some people are adverse to dark beers, this should help them along to enjoying them.

Many stouts do not fit the classic "Irish" definition as exemplified by Guinness, either due to their hop or roast rates, or higher gravity (in the case of many American stouts). They are still basic stouts, however, not falling into any of the subclasses
