This beer is perhaps the rarest in the world. Samichlaus may be aged for many years to come. Older vintages become more complex with a creamy warming finish. Serve with hardy robust dishes and desserts, particulary with chocolates, or as an after dinner drink by itself. Brewed under the exclusive licence of Feldschlösschen-Hürlimann-Holding, Switzerland.
So rare, low hops, low aroma and a bus load of silly, climb in I say...
Thats a really rich aroma, deep like chocolate, it's rather nice.
Pour is a lovely dark rich chestnut, and whilst it does not appear over carbonated I can see bubbles dancing in this. No head though.Then the taste which is very sweet and also you immediately get a sense of the alcohol in this.
Super fruity and a lot of other sweet hints going on in this. Much more like a barley wine than what it says on the label. I'm sure they're good with their brewing and what I have is what it is supposed to be.
I can see why people rave about it. it is after all a thing of beauty and refinement.
But it also has a few things that make it hard work. I'd like slightly more carbonation and bubbles, my preference. Perhaps that's the only thing wrong with it.
This is deadly easy drinking, even if it is in smaller sips than quaffing beer, there actually isn't much giveaway that this is a beer that'll make you fall down in a thrice.
Lovely fruit notes carry and they're all mellow and in tune with each other, indeed a clever beer well done.
An after dinner beer if ever there was one, and nice it is too. It's a long drink not something thou can knock back despite it's engaging qualities, there is a lot to ruminate over with this.
The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 a of its things from the thing. I'm not going to move my own goalposts to make this a great or unforgettable beer (have two you'll forget a lot of things). It's nice, very nice, but it isn't engaging and interactive.
The double dip review
- Am I enjoying it? More yes than No
- Would I have another? I darn't, it would end badly
- Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? I thin that given something to eat this against that you'd drink it without a blink, but it'd be the end of an evening thing, like a dessert beer.

DOPPELBOCK
Doppel means double and while these are stronger brews than the traditional German bocks, they are typically not twice the strength. Color is light amber to dark brown. Very full body with a high alcoholic flavor. Low hop flavor and aroma.
