A generous use of N.Z grown Motueka, Dr Rudi and Styrian Goldings hops give a zesty orange flavour and provides a firm bitterness to balance all that caramel and chocolate malt goodness.
This is a 330 ml can of a beer with an ABV of 4.8%, making it 1.34 tankard drinks in NZ
Has some lacing in the glass which is always a bonus.
But I find this a bit thin, although there are some chocolate notes they are a bit terse, and the lingering bitter isn't counterpoint to anything. So not only no aroma but no carry and length for me.
Of the three beers this is perhaps the piggy in the middle of them, but it may be the best of the the three since it dos offer up the most by way of the "all things".
The pdubyah-o-meter says this a 6.5 or average beer on it's grand scale of arbitrary made-up-ness. I don't not like it, I just don't like it as much as I think I should be liking it.
I'd like to have more aroma, the head, carbonation, and coloration are great. I'd like the chocolate note to be less terse and more apparent.
It's the last of the Summer Beers for me, at the beach, I have 1 more of each of the 3 to drink and that may mean I come back and make additions or amendments. I have been known to change my mind.
PORTER
Black or chocolate malt gives the porter its dark brown color. Porters are well hopped and heavily malted. This is a medium-bodied beer. Porters can be sweet. Hoppiness can range from bitter to mild. Porters are often confused with stouts
