Beer - #460 - Panhead - Lamb Chopper

How could you not want to buy a beer called Lamb Chopper ?

Brewed by Panhead Custom Ales  in the style that is of  Saison and they are Upper Hutt, New Zealand

I have  a 6% ABV, 20 IBU things worth. and 2.3 standard drinks in the bottle, which is around 180 calories a 355ml serve, or 240 the bottle, from this a 500ml bottle (16 Fl Oz).

Determined to find out how customised a beer can Panhead collaborated with food writer Anna-Tait Jamieson to create this mind-warping Witbeir for Beervana 2014.

Where cone Motueka and Nelson Sauvin is some thing, Coriander seeds, Juniper berries and Thyme is another.

But we felt out new 'funk wit' need an additional push over the line with something seriously weird. So ewe's milk it was.

Lamb Chopper is not the common herd. Drink it Fresh.

I think a beer the most and least that I'm looking forward to, I heard someone tell me that it was , and then I read the words and I think mmmmmm

Aroma on opening is an eclectic thing, it's neither sweet nor sour. Pours the colour of lemonade!

Wasn't expecting that. (Might have been expecting that)

Lamb ChopperNow you can pick up the Thyme in the aroma.

Taste.

Taste Again.

Pause.

There is something not quite right, something close, but just squiffy. It's a beer that really challenges you in drinking. Not in the way that you dread, but in a way that you try to pinpoint what that flavour might me. I doubt it's the milk, it might be the way the Thyme and Coriander were treated.

It's almost like an oily taste too, I think that's just a think in my head though and not a thing.

No I think it is kind of, oily. Which is a weird taste to get in a beer, right? I'm not a betting man but I bet it's oils from the herbs.

Wanders off to find some bread that I cooked to see if that makes a difference to what I taste

The aroma is pretty strong, I think this leads you to the oil state. But the aroma matches the taste.

At this point I'm leaving the discussion unfinished.

What I'll carry on with though is that despite the quirky nature of the drinking that this isn't hard drinking and I've managed to have quite a bit away without any drama (except the pit stop for fresh bread).

I went out of my way to track this down. My sense of achievement and confusion are equal

The pdubyah-o-meter rates this as 8 a of its things from the thing. I want to like it more, bit It's actual taste profile is pretty jarring. But I drank it all.

The double dip review

  1. Am I enjoying it? Putting me on the spot. As a one off special perhaps, as the style no

  2. Would I have another? Not this one.

  3. Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? For the reason that it is a special brew perhaps, otherwise no.

I'm still listening to the band "War on Drugs" This is a track "An Ocean Between the Waves"

SAISON

Fruity esters dominate the aroma. Clarity is good with a large foamy head on top. The addition of several spices and herbs create a complex fruity or citrusy flavor. Light to medium bodied with very high carbonation. Alcohol level is medium to high.
