Beer - #405 - Mikkeller - Beer Geek Brunch Weasel

Another beer with a long torturous name Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel.

So this is a Mikkeller beer, brewed at Lervig Aktiebryggeri as an Imperial Stout and they are in Copenhagen, Denmark, even if the bottle says it's brewed and bottled in Norway, confused much?

10.9% ABV this one!,  327 calories, and only a 335 ml bottle (11.2 fl oz), making it 2.84 standard drink units in this.

Brewed by Mikkeller at Nøgne Ø, Norway. 

This imperial Oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean. Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee. The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.

After a Sunday that whizzed by, and having had a 5km run that according to the app earned me 468 calories  I'm looking forward to this, and also it's been in the fridge a while and needed to see the daylight. 

Anyhow...

Not a lot by way of coffee aroma that is immediate, but given a few seconds and a second snort - there it is, along with some fruits.

Deep thick dark pour with a head that was there and then wasn't, lovely cold coffee aroma in the glass, quite and still not roast or burnt.

This is quite bitter up front and immediate, and I got a real burst of dark cocoa chocolate too, which was surprising and also a bit nice. It's also very bubble carbonated in the mouth.

It also carries a fair amount of sourness in this, from the coffee?

There are the usual raisin and other sweet things but I found this to on the wrong side of too dry a finish with my tongue really taking a beating from it.

Lucky that it's a small bottle.

I didn't have overly high expectations for this, I know that it's well regarded around and abouts in beerworld. But I'm not one to follow a crowd and will call emperors new clothes if I think it needs called.

If you do what wine swirly thing you can see the alcohol on the side of the glass he said in pompous tones,  it's pretty apparent in the drinking that is is pretty sting on that front.

MrsPhil just asked me why I'm frowning so, I think it's mostly the lingering and lasting flavour on my buckled tongue, and puzzling as to why this doesn't have more coffee notes and where the fruit sweets went.

Thankfully I've nearly finished this, I really don't think I could have gone the 500ml or larger I would have been close to not being able to finish.

That I did finish though indicates that there was enough in this by way of sweetness and enjoyment, but I have to point out that sitting here having finished it I'm getting a bit of regret because it's not a warm or welcoming thing, like I don't miss, and won't miss this beer, I won't wistfully ponder it's nature later this evening, or be looking to get another.

2. Would I have another? No, this Mikkeller is not for me


3. Would I share with a friend on a porch and set the world to rights? Goodness no.  I'd drink it politely if you brought it to the porch though.

IMPERIAL STOUT

Imperial stouts are usually extremely dark brown to black in color with flavors that are intensely malty, deeply roasted and sometimes with accents of dark fruit (raisin, fig) or milk sourness. The bitterness is typically medium and often the low sie of that. Imperial stouts are strong and often exceed 8% by volume.
